Merlin Biotech Receives Investment From The Alliance for Health Equity

The Alliance for Health Equity is pleased to announce a generous donation of $110,000 from a Silicon Valley investor towards our Catalytic Impact Fund (CIF) and general work. This significant contribution will enhance our efforts to boost the local economy and ensure a robust and sustainable future for our community initiatives.
Launched within the past two years, the CIF aims to maximize the impact of our long-term assets on the local economy. We believe that our financial resources can be more effectively utilized to benefit the community today, while also securing a strong and stable tomorrow for the organization’s ongoing work. With an initial one million dollar funding carve out from AHE’s board, we have made $800,000+ loans or equity investments in the last year.
In 2024, The Alliance for Health Equity set a goal of raising an additional $250,000 to invest in medical and medical-adjacent businesses, furthering our commitment to health equity. This recent donation brings us closer to achieving that goal.
Of the $110,000 donation, $100,000 will be used to purchase shares in Merlin Biotechnology, a pharmaceutical firm dedicated to developing cancer treatments, including therapies for Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare pediatric cancer. Ewing’s Sarcoma has limited treatment options due to its rarity, making it less attractive to large pharmaceutical companies focused on financial returns. Merlin Biotechnology’s commitment to addressing such rare medical conditions aligns perfectly with our mission of promoting health equity. The remaining $10,000 will support the general work of The Alliance for Health Equity in Coatesville.
Today’s investment is particularly significant given the current political climate, where federal budget adjustments have led to funding cuts for the Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act, which supports childhood cancer and disease research. To truly address and solve the problems of health inequities in America and beyond, we will need each other’s daring willingness to find problems beyond government solutions.
“We are deeply grateful for this donation, which will significantly advance our mission to create a healthier and more equitable community,” said Kevin Ressler, President and CEO of The Alliance for Health Equity. “This support enables us to continue our vital work and make a lasting difference in Coatesville.”
